THE WORD
“SCAPEGOAT”
- Means
to put blame on one person
- For
what another person did
- God
initiated this, using goats
- During
Yom Kippur (or
the Day of Atonement)
THEY TOOK TWO
GOATS
- And
drew lots
- One
would be sacrificed for the Lord
- The
other would be the scapegoat
THEY WOULD USE
SOME OF THE BLOOD
- From
the slaughtered goat
- To
paint the tips of the horns on the scapegoat
Aaron
would place all the sin of Israel
- On
the goats head
- And
then they would turn the scapegoat loose
AS THE GOAT
DISAPPEARED INTO THE DESERT
- It
carried with it, the sins of Israel
- Never
again to be seen
AS JESUS DIED
UPON THE CROSS
- He
became our divine scapegoat
He
was guiltless
- Yet
He took our guilt upon Him
- He
was slaughtered for our sakes
- And
now our sins
- Have
been carried away with Him
AS WE ENTER INTO
HIS SUPPER
- Let
us do as we were commanded to do
“He
gave thanks for the bread and said, this is my body, which is for
you -
do
this whenever you eat it, in remembrance of me. And after supper He took the cup and said, “This is my
blood, which is poured out for you.
Do this every time you drink of it – in remembrance of
me.
