Communion

                  Meditations

HERE ARE SOME BAD THINGS I REMEMBER:

  • At age 9 – my brother threw me into a creek

  • At age 13 – Eddie Runyon beat me up

  • And the list could go on and on  -  as could yours

WHAT GOOD DOES IT DO ME TO REMEMBER THESE?

  • Can I change the past?

  • Do those bad memories make today better?

  • What purpose do they serve?

  • They are Satan's way of clouding our hearts

  • Keeping us from focusing on Jesus

WE ALL HAVE BAD MEMORIES

  • And we keep them around

  • Hanging on to them and refusing to let go

  • Like they are worth keeping

ARE BAD THINGS WORTH REMEMBERING?

  • Let’s see if God thinks we should remember them -

ISAIAH 43:25

‘I, even I, am He who blots out your sins for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.’

ISN’T THAT GREAT NEWS?

  • The God of Heaven

  • Does not remember your sin

AND IF GOD IS WILLING TO FORGET THE BAD THINGS

  • Why do we so desperately hang on to them?

  • If we let them go, they will cloud our hearts no more.

  • And then we can focus fully on Jesus

AND AS WE ENTER THIS COMMUNION

  • We are to fully focus on Him

  • Because that is the one thing

  • We are commanded to remember

1 CORINTHIANS 11:24-25

‘… and when He had given thanks, he broke the bread and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”  In the same way, after supper, he took the cup saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, do this whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

FORGET THE BAD  (the worldly)

  • Remember the good  (the Godly)
AS WE GO INTO PRAYER
