  • The first thing he did after touchdown

  • Was open two small plastic packages

THESE PACKAGES CONTAINED

  • Bread and wine

  • The first thing ever consumed on the moon

  • Were the emblems of communion

THE FIRST THING EVER READ WAS

  • JOHN 15:5 – ‘I am the vine, you are the branches.’

  • A statement made by Jesus Christ

WHAT IS COMMUNION ALL ABOUT ?

It is about remembrance

  • Practicing the tradition of communion

  • Keeps us from forgetting the sacrifice of Jesus

LUKE 22:19

'This is my body, which is given for you.  Eat this in remembrance of Me.’

IT IS ABOUT SHARING

  • It brings God and man together

  • Through the sacrifice of Jesus,  the Son

  • And it brings mankind together

  • Through the love of Jesus in the heart

LUKE 22:17

‘Take this cup and divide it among you.’

IT IS A JUDGMENT

  • We are told that

  • Taking it without examining our hearts

  • Brings judgment upon us

1 CORINTHIANS 11:28-29

‘A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.  For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord, eats and drinks judgment on himself.’

WE COME TO THIS TABLE

  • Not because we must

  • But because we may

  • Not because we are righteous

  • But because we love

WE DO NOT COME TO EXPRESS AN OPINION

  • But to express a need

  • And to seek a presence

  • The presence of our Lord and Savior  ---   Jesus Christ
