AT THE END OF THE CIVIL WAR

  • A division of the union army

  • Spent their last night together in camp

  • They talked about what they had gone thru

And it is what they went thru together

  • That created their memories

  • Although they would never want to relive them

  • The memories were precious indeed

JESUS HAD A SIMILAR NIGHT

  • The last night He was together

  • With His disciples

  • It was at the Last Supper

LATER ON, THE DISCIPLES

  • Would talk of their memories -

  • The memories of what they had gone thru

  • As they walked with Jesus

SOLDIERS ALWAYS REMEMBER THE CONFLICTS

  • Down deep, they long for a reunion

  • With those they depended on in combat

It is a rare veteran indeed

  • Who can listen to taps

  • Without shedding some tears

AND CHRISTIANS ALSO YEARN FOR REUNION

  • The reunion with our Master –

  • And we also feel emotions

  • When remembering what Jesus did for us

I WAS A WARRIOR

  • And I have memories of those

  • Whose lives were more precious than gold

AND I AM A CHRISTIAN

  • And I have memories of another campaign

  • The campaign to let Jesus be known

  • Because His life was so much more precious than mine

WARRIORS CELEBRATE THEIR VICTORIES

  • Over their enemies

  • And Christians celebrate their victory over sin

And I remember

  • That whether it is a soldier or a Christian

  • Obedience is what gives us those memories of victory

  AT THAT LAST SUPPER

Jesus took the break.  He broke it and gave thanks for it – and said, “This bread is representative of My body, which will also be broken - - for you.  When you eat it, remember Me.”

Then, after supper, He took the cup and said, “This cup is the memory of the new promise of salvation that is given you through My blood.  When you drink of the cup, remember Me.”

LET US BE OBEDIENT

  • Let us remembering Jesus

  • For who He is

  • As we eat the bread and drink of the cup
