COMMUNION (the Last Supper)

  • Is the Passover Meal

EACH YEAR, THE HIGH PRIEST

  • Would slaughter a lamb

  • But first, he would place the guilt of Israel on its horns

  • This was all symbolically, of course

THIS WAS TO SHOW THE PEOPLE

  • That sin had a penalty

  • And that penalty was death

BUT IT ALSO SHOWED

  • That by bringing our sins into the open

  • We could have atonement for them

  • By using a sacrifice in our place

LEVITICUS 17:11 tells us

  • the life of a creature is in the blood,

  • and it is in that blood that atonement is found

AS THE BLOOD POURED OUT OF THAT LAMB

  • The sin of the people symbolically faded away

  • To be buried under that blood

FOR SIX HOURS, JESUS SLOWLY BLED TO DEATH

  • And during this time

  • He took our sins as His own

  • And covered them with His blood

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN

  • The Passover Lamb

  • And the Lamb of God

  • Is that Jesus’ forgiveness last forever

AS WE DRAW NEAR TO JESUS

  • During the time of remembrance

  • We acknowledge our need for cleansing

  • And our need for His forgiveness

 1 CORINTHIANS 11:23-25 reads

‘On the very night He was betrayed, He took the loaf and broke it and offered up thanks – then shared it and said, “This is like My body, which will be broken for you.  Remember me as you eat it.”

“And after dinner, He took the cup of wine and said, “This is like My blood, which will be spilt for you.  It represents the new way to worship God – through Me.  So, remember Me as you drink it.”
